Why Kindness Matters

Maybe you can relate to this scenario…

Turn on the news or scroll through your Facebook feed, and you’re bombarded daily by negativity. Maybe you roll your eyes, sigh or shake your head. Maybe you think, “man, people really need to start being nicer to one another.”

I can tell you firsthand, you’re not alone.

Between devastating news headlines around the world and vitriolic social media posts, I feel physically and emotionally overwhelmed. Sometimes the amount of negativity makes me feel small and powerless. I’ve spent a lot of time wondering, what can I do? I’m just one person. But it’s time to change that thinking, and it’s time to stop thinking someone else will change our world for us. This is our world. It’s time for all of us to be the change.

Get Outta Town.

Seriously. We could all use a vacation.

After spending countless weeks living vicariously through my friend’s travel photos on Facebook from Italy, Spain, Hawaii, Las Vegas and Mexico, I had enough.

Inspired to plan our own trip, I called up my travel agent, Kim Johnston. She’s an experienced agent based out of Tacoma, who has been all over the world. I wanted to share some of her travel wisdom, because if you are itching to get out and explore, it’s not too late to put together a fantastic summer getaway. Continue reading “Get Outta Town.”

The Eyes Have It: Makeup I’m Loving Now

Confession: I’m a bit nervous.

I’m so incredibly humbled to get such a great response from you all on my last post. I mean, how on earth can I follow that up?!

However, I’ve gotten so many questions about my favorite go-to eye makeup products that I wanted to address it in a post. I also purchased a little selfie tripod on Amazon, so hopefully a little tutorial will come later. I am constantly compelled to stress I am not a makeup artist, but since I’m get questions, I’m happy to share everything I can.

One caveat: I wear eyelash extensions. This means my product stash might be a little different than people who don’t. I steer clear of eye makeup with oils in them, because they tend to make extensions fall out quicker.

Let’s get down to business.

Why We Eloped

liz wedding 185

In 2015, couples spent an average of $32,641 on their wedding.

I don’t know about you, but a price tag like this gives me anxiety. This is one of several reasons we eloped.

Yes, we eloped. It was a lovely, teeny-tiny ceremony in October 2013 in Woodinville, WA.

When it comes up, I get a lot of questions. There are several reasons we made this choice, and I don’t regret it.

If your dream is to have a huge ceremony, that’s fine. However, I bring this up because I’ve had conversations with brides-to-be admitting they never wanted a huge ceremony and feel completely overwhelmed.

I’m here to tell you it doesn’t have to be this way.

Sleep Lizdom

“2 AM?? What time do you have to go to bed?”

I can’t tell you how often I hear this when I’m asked about my job. I’ve been waking up in the middle of the night for work for almost a decade now, so if there is one thing I’m an expert on, it’s sleep. Mostly because I love it, it’s fleeting, I’m desperate for it and I’ve dedicated so much of my time to trying to get it.

Because I go to sleep during the day, I’ve had to create my own personal sleep environment, and this past year or so, my husband and I have gotten very serious about doing this. In creating this space, I’ve learned so much about sleep that I wanted to share what I’ve discovered, because most likely you are like me and struggling to get every minute of shut eye you can.

Let’s get started… Continue reading “Sleep Lizdom”
